Logitech Brio 500 Review: Premium Webcam on a Budget

Posted by Brett Fisher on 1st Jul 2025

Video conferencing technology has come a long way since the dial-up era, so blurry, grainy images and distorted, choppy audio won’t cut it anymore. Today’s content consumers, clients, and team members expect professional quality, and the Logitech Brio 500 delivers.

As we conducted this Logitech Brio 500 webcam review, we were consistently impressed by this user-friendly webcam’s excellent visual and audio clarity. The Brio 500 packs a lot of performance in a compact form factor, and the price is more than reasonable.

Unless you require cinema-level quality (in which case the Brio 4K may be a better choice), the Brio 500 is a solid pick we can recommend without hesitation. Let’s dive into the Logitech Brio 500 review.

Lifelike Visual Quality

The Brio 500 lets you choose between capturing Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps (frames per second) or HD 720p video at 60 fps. We appreciated the flexibility, as some users may want to prioritize clarity over smoothness or vice versa.

While 4K resolution would be nice, that’s why the Brio 4K exists. For those who don’t need theater-worthy resolution, the Brio 500 will provide a level of detail and color accuracy that’s more than sufficient for professional use.

One noteworthy feature is Logitech’s AI-powered RightLight™ 4, which automatically compensates for poor lighting conditions. Throughout the testing stage of this Logitech Brio 500 webcam review, we were impressed by its real-time ability to fix color balance, shadows, and exposure in dim and bright rooms.

With a 4 MP (megapixel) sensor and high-quality glass lens, participants have a very natural and crisp appearance. If you’re upgrading from a cheap USB webcam or built-in laptop camera, the difference will be significant.

Flexible Framing

The Brio 500 can adapt to most users’ framing requirements. You have three diagonal FOV (field of view) options: 65°, 78°, and 90°. The narrow 65° setting provides tight headshot framing; the wide view shows more of your surroundings, and the 78° setting provides a balanced perspective.

During this Logitech Brio 500 review, we used Logitech’s free Logi Tune software to customize the FOV settings, as well as brightness, zoom, and color. We especially appreciated the 4x digital zoom that lets you focus closely on your face and crop out unwanted background clutter.

Don’t overlook framing control as a way to give your calls and presentations professional polish, especially if you often switch between standing and sitting. The Brio 500 makes squeezing awkwardly into frame a relic of the past.

Unexpectedly Solid Audio Pickup

It’s no secret that stock webcam microphones typically make you sound like you’re inside a tin can. Throughout this Logitech Brio 500 webcam review, we were surprised by how usable the dual beamforming and noise-reducing microphones actually are.

The mics capture natural, clear voices from up to 48 inches (4 feet) away. They provide adequate coverage and clarity for typical use cases, but we recommend external microphones if you need long-distance pickup and/or higher fidelity for audio-heavy applications like voiceovers or podcasts.

Compact Form Factor and Easy Mounting

Logitech knocked it out of the park with non-technical features, too. At 1.2 inches tall, 4.3 inches wide, and roughly 2.8 ounces, the Brio 500 occupies very little space and can be moved from room to room with ease.

We used the off-white color for this Logitech Brio 500 review, but it also comes in graphite and rose. The webcam has a sleek, modern look that blends seamlessly into the workspace. Build quality is solid. No complaints whatsoever.

Mounting is a breeze. The webcam uses magnets to connect to a universal clip with a micro-suction pad that connects securely to your display. The clip can be tilted or rotated as needed for perfect positioning.

We were especially thrilled with Show Mode. When you flip the webcam down, the image reorients automatically. This thoughtful addition is super handy for showing objects, documents, or sketches in real time with seamless transitions back and forth.

Security and Connectivity

Little details stood out during this Logitech Brio 500 webcam review, one being the integrated privacy shutter. Simply rotate it to completely block the lens. This is a welcome upgrade for those using sticky notes or tape for privacy!

The webcam connects with a fixed USB-C cable that’s around 48 inches (4 feet) long. Those using a USB-A laptop will need to buy an adapter.

The Brio 500 is compatible with the major video conferencing platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom Rooms, and Google Meet. It’s also certified for “Works with Chromebook.” Some Logi Tune software features, like auto-framing, only work on Windows or macOS.

Pros

Ultimately, the Brio 500 is a rock-solid webcam that should exceed the expectations of most users. The following elements were especially noteworthy during this Logitech Brio 500 review.

  • Excellent light correction with RightLight 4

  • Dual-beamforming mics with solid voice pickup

  • Adjustable field of view: 90°, 78°, 65°

  • Show Mode is perfect for creators and teachers

  • Built-in physical privacy shutter

  • Lightweight and compact design

  • USB-C plug and play

  • Eco-friendly construction with recycled materials

  • Certified for Teams, Zoom, Meet, and Chromebook

Cons

There were a few minor drawbacks, mainly from the perspective of power users. As mentioned, the Brio 4K may be a better pick for those who need best-in-class performance.

  • Fixed USB-C cable (no USB-A adapter included)

  • Logi Tune app can be glitchy on some systems

  • Higher price point compared to other 1080p webcams

  • Auto-framing features are limited to certain OS platforms

  • No 4K support for advanced users

During this Logitech Brio 500 webcam review, we considered different use cases and applications. In short, we found that the Brio 500 is a superb option for those seeking a no-frills, hassle-free webcam that just works.

The Brio 500 is perfect for remote, hybrid, and in-person video calls, meetings, and presentations in professional environments. Its flexible mounting system and Show Mode feature also make it ideal for teachers, trainers, and content creators.

With all of that said, if you plan to use your webcam for a visual-heavy application, such as streaming on Twitch or creating YouTube videos, you may find that a 4K camera like the Brio 4K is a better fit.
